What will happen to society when its social structure becomes damaged or faulty?
If the social structure becomes damaged or faulty, depending on the degree, it could either change and move towards a different direction as it slightly does anyway or mutates into chaos like what happens after a severe typhoon or hurricane and people start to take advantage of the temporary breakdown of the social order.
Culture plays a big part in whether the social structure will stay as it is or be destroyed. This is clear when you compare the reaction of the Filipinos in Tacloban after Typhoon Yolanda and the Americans after Hurricane Katrina. Crimes such as breaking into stores and looting were everywhere.
Now let us look at how the Japanese people reacted after the 2011 mega quake. They helped each other in rebuilding, no news of massive looting of food, apparel, and appliances like flat screened televisions.
The social structure is the path we follow, it enables us while at the same time constrains us because we are following rules that have been placed for us by other people. So any damage to it will have different reactions, depend on the makeup of the population.
